  • Bond with a newly born, adopted, or fostered child
  • Care for a family member with a serious health condition
  • Assist loved ones when a spouse, domestic partner, child, or parent is deployed abroad on active military service

Under New York State law, you may be eligible for paid leave from work if:

These rights are in addition to your rights under NYC’s Paid Safe and Sick Leave Law. If you are eligible for leave under State law, consider using State leave before using accrued sick leave under City law.

Your employer can’t:

  • Require you to use accrued sick leave under City law first
  • Mistreat or punish you for using or asking to use sick leave
