NYC Emergency Management (NYCEM) created the Ready New York campaign in 2003 to educate New Yorkers about the hazards they may face. The campaign also encourages residents to prepare for all types of emergencies in New York City.

You can get Ready New York guides that cover a variety of topics. You can also learn about other Ready New York resources and events.

You can get Ready New York guides that outline the very basic steps New Yorkers should take to prepare for emergencies. The guides also contain information about how to put together a Go Bag and an emergency supply kit. Although the City does not provide Go Bags, Ready New York explains how to assemble one.

In addition to the general Ready New York guides, there are specialized guides for:

    The Ready New York: My Emergency Plan + Hurricanes and New York City is an interactive workbook designed to help New Yorkers, especially those with disabilities and access and functional needs, create an emergency plan. 

    My Emergency Plan walks users through:

    • Establishing a support network
    • Capturing important health information 
    • Evacuation planning
    • Gathering emergency supplies
    • How to prepare for a hurricane, including a map detailing hurricane evacuation zones and routes in New York City
