The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene offers free training in lead-safe work practices utilizing the standard EPA renovation, repair, and painting curriculum, and information on the requirements of NYC Local Law 1.

This class is available to:

  • Construction contractors
  • Building superintendents
  • Landlords
  • Handymen
  • Other persons who work on surfaces with lead paint

Classes are available in English and Spanish. Most classes take place on the weekends.

The City provides the “Work Safe!” brochure for painters, ironworkers, demolition crews, laborers and other construction workers to help protect them from lead poisoning from contaminated materials or work areas. The “Work Safe!” brochure also provides information about what employers must do to protect their workers from lead poisoning.
